Officers on patrol at approximately 9 a.m. on Sunday morning on Bayberry Lane stopped Tony Bowens, Jr. of Shelton in a vehicle driving 63 mph in a 25 mph zone. During the subsequent stop, officers reported the “distinct odor of marijuana” coming from the vehicle, prompting further investigation.
During the stop, police said that it was determined that Bowens had a warrant out for his arrest for failing to appear in court, and that he was in possession of a loaded handgun, although his permit to carry was revoked. Officers also seized .06 ounces of marijuana.
Bowens was arrested and charged with illegal possession of marijuana, failure to surrender permit, carrying a weapon in a motor vehicle, carrying a pistol without a permit and a misdemeanor count of speeding. He was also charged with failure to appear in court for the outstanding warrant out of Fairfield.
Following arraignment, Bowens was released on $50,000 bond. He is due back in Norwalk Superior Court on May 3 to answer the charges.
